Doctors have the answers in the palm of their Hands
19th Aug 2007
Back in the early days long before the World Wide Web doctors relied on reference books alone to see how new prescriptions would interact with medications currently being prescribed to a patient.
Nowadays websites such as UpToDate.com provide comprehensive evidence-based information on the Web, desktop, and PDA.
Mobile technology nowadays also means that doctors have a wealth of drug reference guides in the palms of their hands, doctors now have the capability to download X-rays, test results and other information about patients while doing the rounds.
Doctors and nurses are making use of the technology not just for address books and e-mail, but as a constant part of their practice.
A lot of people relied on their experience and whether they've had success with a particular drug in the past.
About half of U.S. doctors currently use a mobile device such as a PDA or smart phone, and about a third of medical schools now require new students to have such technology.
