Contra Costa County Sheriffs office has announced a new program that will track registered sex offenders within a one mile radius.
Offender Watch automatically e-mails people who subscribe to the Web site when a registered sex offender moves within a one-mile radius of an address.
The Sheriff's Office hopes city police departments in the region will use Offender Watch to expand the regional database. The Sheriff's Office monitors more than 300 registered sex offenders in unincorporated areas. There are an estimated 1,400 registered sex offenders in Contra Costa County. Reports Contra Costa Times.
