Website Offering Free Speed Trap Map
19th Aug 2007

A website is offering motorists in "Toronto" free software that maps known speed traps around the city.

The information can be uploaded to most navigation systems, displays a Google map dotted with little Police cars.

The new website XYYZ.ca, whose name combines the male chromosome representation (XY) and Toronto's airport code (YYZ), reiterates it's not endorsing speeding.

Motorists can upload the speed trap map by subscribing to XYYZ's daily newsletter, the Wyre. The file is in GPX (the GPS Exchange Format), an XML data format for the interchange of GPS data between applications and Web services.

The program was downloaded 1,000 times in the first three days of launch.

XYYZ is planning on expanding to other Canadian cities, and have already purchased the URL names for Vancouver (XYVR), Montreal (XYUL) and Calgary (XYYC).
