Website Owner Jailed in the UAE

A court in the United Arab Emirates sentenced website owner Mohammed Rashed Al Shehhi to a one year jail sentence and ordered him to pay $19,000 USD after a local official sued the Web site and its owner for defamation.
The Court in Ras Al Khaimah also ruled his Web site majan.net to be closed, human rights groups are calling for Al Shehhi to be released and for the sentence to be quashed.
Dubai is a country that took the lead in spreading Internet usage in the Arab World.
