You Tube Agrees to a UK Music Royalty Deal
30th Aug 2007

YouTube has won an agreement with the UK alliances that collect royalties for 50,000 composers, songwriters and publishers.

The agreement is good news for YouTube as will probably result in legitimizing the use of recorded music on the world’s most popular video sharing Web site.

YouTube will pay a fee to the MCPS-PRS Alliance like many other Internet-based radio and television broadcasters. In return, it will have access to the music.

According to the agreement, the alliance will license 10 million pieces of music to YouTube for an undisclosed amount.

For YouTube, the agreement will bring the company closer to its goal of winning the trust of content owners.
