Who's Behind the Cigarette Smoking Videos Published Online?
28th Sep 2007

Advertising Tobacco is banned on both television and radio but that has not stopped cigarettes from being marketed to kids via the internet.

A basic search on popular video sharing website YouTube.com resulted in thousands of videos related to cigarettes and smoking.

What is interesting is that some of the videos are not amateur shoots leading one to believe there are companies out there who benefit from such campaigns.

Some ads on the videos go as far as claiming smoking has weight loss benefits. Kids are also responding to videos with one message saying 'yeah cool go for it, I love smoking',"

Public health expert Professor Simon Chapman says "What we are really worried about is new media. YouTube, MySpace, Facebook which are actually running riot with pro smoking messages which look like they have the fingerprints of tobacco companies all over them,".
