Mail order Cigarettes? Make sure you check there are no nasty surprises not only to your health but to your pocket.
Fliers are being distributed promising customers huge savings on cigarettes from a southern New York company.
When Jessica a 43 year old Pennsylvania woman with a pack-a-day habit seen prices rocket in her state she decided to contact Smart Smokers.
But the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue spoke up in April.
The state sent Jessica a bill for $2,717 in unpaid sales and cigarette taxes for 356 cartons she bought from SmartSmoker.com Jessica contacted Smart Smokers and told the saleswoman the company was losing her money because it failed to tell her the prices did not include Pennsylvania taxes.
“The saleswoman told me, "You should've read the fine print”.
More than 9,200 Pennsylvania smokers apparently did not read the fine print buried on Web sites touting cheap cigarettes or sales fliers beckoning smokers to sign up for no-hassle, mail-order cigarettes.
Smart Smokers do state in their 'About Us' section of the website "As part of the Seneca Nation of Indians and the Iroquois Confederacy, SmartSmoker is currently not required to collect state sales tax for for products sold on native land."
