Senators Internet Campaign (TV Not allowed)!
17th Aug 2007

Former Senator Fred D. Thompson of Tennessee is not allowed to advertise on TV, Radio, or in newspapers to promote his political ambitions as he has not yet declared his presidential candidacy.

But on the internet his supporters can catch up with him on his website www.imwithfred.com, where they are asked for donations, as well as to help with fundraising and to spread the word to family and friends.

Visitors to his website can watch his “FredCast” and read the “The Fred File” to get his views on things such as immigration law and the economy.

Mr. Thompson is allowed by law to continue campaigning on the internet because federal election laws and enforcement have failed to catch up with campaigning in cyberspace. As a result he has been able to promote his position as well as raise money through his website while technically remaining a Non-candidate.

In theory he is just “testing the waters” although he is behaving like a candidate making his first trip to Iowa this week.

He also recently sent out a video responding to the director Michael Moore’s challenge to a debate over health care issues raised in his latest movie, “Sicko,” and the video got more than 100,000 hits on YouTube.
