spOtmob - Short Video Messaging Service
30th Sep 2007

(Review)

spOtmob - Short videos can be made with mobile phones and be published immediately on the web presenting funny or sad, exciting or boring moments of your life.

Mobile phones with built-in cameras are used often to take photos and occasionally to record short videos.

Everyone can post video spots, recording moments of his or her life. At spOtmob a short video can be posted instead of the text message, so not only can it be said, it can be showed as well.

spOtmob is free of charge but requires registration. After registering at spOtmob everyone gets an unique email address, with this unique address the system is capable of identifying to whom belongs the posted video.

With an email capable mobile phone the spot can be sent immediately after the recording but it can also be uploaded later using a computer.

Another application opportunity is to use spOtmob as a news broadcasting medium faster than any other existing one. News agencies and of course individuals can use spOtmob to send short reports to the whole world.

Right now the public beta testing of the system is being carried out and Volunteers are welcome to subscribe.

Technical requirements:

- any kind of device supporting 3GP format video recording and email sending
- The maximal size of a spot can be 30 seconds and 512 KB
- spOtmob works best in case of size QCIF (176*144), but the resolution of the spot can differ, if the total size does not exceed 512 KB
- the latest version of QuickTime media player is necessary to watch spOtmob
