$2,000,000 Online Train Ticket Scam Uncovered
10th Sep 2007
In the UK a train ticketing scam that netted fraudsters around £1,000,000 (approximately $2,000,000 USD) has been uncovered at Manchester Piccadilly station.
Stolen or cloned credit cards were used to buy the tickets from thetrainline.com website, tickets were then sold on to passengers for cash at a discount.
Tickets bought online from thetrainline.com can be collected at the station in a fast ticket machine - but the same credit card has to be put into the machine to obtain the ticket.
